Each of her students have an Individualized Education Programs. On the first day of my observation, I observed Mrs. Steven and her paraprofessional interact with the students during breakfast, warm-up, and during I-Ready English Language Arts and/or Math. During breakfast, the class sat together, as the staff interacted with each student showing the appropriate social skills to have during meal time. During the time of my observation, I was able to see how the classroom staff transitions the students from their recess/preferred activity. Outside of the classroom is what Mrs. Stevens likes to call the cool down station. After transition from the gym, each student had to participate in the cool down station by sitting in the desk with their hands on the desk and taking ten deep breaths. After completing the cool down station, Mrs. Stevens would ask the student’s if they were ready to return to the classroom were the paraprofessional already had the student’s individual work areas ready for the students to log onto I-Ready. On the third day of my observation, I was able to observe how the classroom staff and the student’s interact during lunch and rest and digest. Much like breakfast, the staff interacted with the students by continuing to show the appropriate social skills needed when interacting with their peers. After the class transitioned back to the classroom, it was time for “rest and digest” which was a 30 minute period that allowed the student’s rest before beginning the next activity. The staff also used this time to read to the class as well as taking care of the student’s hygiene. On the last day of my observation, I was able to observe a full five hours of all of the above activities, and the classrooms Social Studies and …show more content…

Bullying can also be defined as the use of hostile actions that is meant to be disparaging to the individual (Long & Alexander, 2010). While studying the definitions of bullying and reading observations of Lacy Elementary School, bullying became prevalent during lunch hours, which involves large numbers of students gathering in a common area. The implementation of an intervention team, as well as creation of an action plan will combat the issue of bullying in the cafeteria.…
