To begin with, the book ‘Lord of the Flies’ is composed by William Golding right after World War II events have ended. The book tells a story about a faction of English boys who deserted on an island during the era of the war. While being stranded, the group of English boys had identified that the island has already have been developed, so then they decided to try to make their own civilization in order to sort things out as they wait to be rescued. Nevertheless, as days pass by, their society have started to spiral out of control. Due to the fact that this party is occupied by a group of preteens, and there is no adult to be seen to be their mentor on the deserted island. This rivalry can be conveyed in different interpretations, such as: civilization vs. barbarians, organization and arrangement vs. lawlessness, logic vs. impulse, order vs. anarchy, or the simple title of good vs. evil. Lord of the Flies is an allegorical novel, since many of author’s ideas and themes tend to reveal within symbolic cast and props. Golding reveals the civilization vs. barbarians in the novel between the protagonist and antagonist, Ralph the leader with order and Jack the disobedient with lust over power. As the story starts to progress towards the end of the novel, the author reveals that every character have different perspectives on the theme of civilization vs. barbarians. For example, Piggy has to desire for power, and while Roger scarcely respects the rules that Ralph has laid towards their civilization. Still nevertheless, the author mentions that savagery is more of a gut feeling instead a human personality. When individuals are stranded, humans naturally rely on cruelty and barbarism to be able to succeed in the great unknown.
