Across the country, physical education classes are being cut from school programs. School administrators say the cuts save money, and subjects like math and English are more important. The health and well-being of students is just as important. That is why gym class should be a part of every school curriculum.

For some students, gym class is the only exercise they get. In the past, children played outside. For many reasons, this is no longer true. According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 40 percent of children between the ages of nine and thirteen take part in organized physical activity outside of school. Here is something even more startling. At least 23 percent of those children do not get any exercise
