Leonardo da Vinci did great work on perspective, light, shadows, and color painting in the art world. He was motivated by the idea of trying to make things as realistic as possible. He spent immense amounts of time studying the works of others, experimenting, and observing for him self the unique way the eye sees things. He researched light, and optics, perspective, and astronomy. With all of this he was not only able to learn and expand our knowledge of planets, astronomy, light, optics, perspective, but was also able to take all of this knowledge to create art that was different then all of that which came before.
