Summarize from three different Chinese milestones: Imperial Era, Republican Era, and early People’s Republic. The dressing has been regarded as one of the best ways to distinguish social classes, sexes, occupation, liberty, power, and patriotism. Depending on one’s status in society, each social class had a different sense of fashion back then. Even dress rules were either written law or unwritten law, Chinese people all understood by themselves and practiced it seriously, or they could suffer serious consequences that they might have to use their life to pay the price. Products are made from silk can cost three times to ten times than normal products. Silk fabric was invented in Ancient China and played an important role in their culture and economy for thousands of year. Legend of silk has started since the first silk cloth was first invented by the wife of the Yellow Emperor, Leizu. Silk cloth was extremely valuable in Ancient China and also today. Wearing silk was an important status symbol when it is a luxuriously soft and opulent fabric was punishable by death. At first, only members of the royal family were allowed to wear silk. Later, silk clothing was restricted to only noble class. Merchants and Peasants were not allowed to wear silk. Silk even used as money during some Ancient dynasties then became the Silk Road. The Silk Road was a trade route that went from China to Eastern Europe. It was over four thousand miles long that went along the northern borders of China, India, and Persia and ended up in Eastern Europe.
