Dialogue Decalogue Used Outside of Conversation
After reading the “Dialogue Decalogue”, I believe it is very helpful when studying religion, as well as in everyday life. Not only does it help when reading and understanding topics while studying, but it also helps in conversations and experiences outside the realm of religion. It is necessary that everyone have a good
First of all, Reading or studying is much like having a conversation with yourself, or an imaginary teacher of sorts. When reading and trying to understand other religions and other theories, you have to open your mind up to the possibility that they are truthful or “right”- that is the basis of the commandments as a whole. You have to be willing to learn and have to have respect for what you're reading- this is actually the First Principle from The Dialogue Principles. For example, something very in the now is our President. Whenever speaking about the President, his policies, or his lifestyle- it is highly controversial, whether it is a conversation with a friend or a stranger- as long as it is in line with the seventh principle. Other things such as abortion, gay marriage, transgenders in the military- these are all conversations or learning experiences that need to be met with the understanding of why the Dialogue Principles were written in the first place. We have to follow the tenth priniciple in as many situations we can, just to understand where the other person's opinion or belief is coming from, regardless of your personal view, otherwise you will never learn, you’ll be stuck in your own bubble and most likely nobody will understand where you are coming from either because you won’t know the structure for a conversation to tell
