During his journey, Chris learned how to appreciate human relationships. As previously stated, Chris met several people in his travels; one of these people being Jan. Ron taught Chris the value of forgiveness. Ron tells Chris that, “When you forgive, you love. And when you love, God's light shines on you.” This light Ron refers to and tells chris about comes in at the end of the film when in his final moments of life, Chris invisions himself running up to and hugging both his parents while the sunlight shines on him. This shows that Chris truly felt the power of forgiveness and would have forgiven his parents and returned to them or contacted them in some way after he left Alaska. Ron also taught Chris that “Happiness is only real, when shared.” This advise hits Chris hardest when he reaches Alaska and realizes that he’s alone.
