There is an example of that when everyone is at one of Gatsby’s lavish parties. Gatsby and Daisy sneak away to talk. Daisy says “Why can’t we just run away?” Jay in this scene shows that he prefers his objects over love. A man in love wouldn’t think twice about what he has over a woman, but Jay immediately thought of his possessions such as his car, house, money, status, and “friends.” Jimmy/ Jay is exactly who they want to be. He would not put love over that showing again that he doesn’t actually love Daisy and that he doesn’t truly love in
