Key Club Experience

Decent Essays
In my Freshmen year of high school, I tried being part of as many clubs I possibly could. I was a member of FBLA, FCCLA, Key Club, HOSA, National Honor Society, Beta, and Voices for Animals. Being a member of all these clubs only made me realize that I sincerely do enjoy helping others. The two clubs that have impacted my life tremendously are FCCLA and Key Club. My first year of being a member of FCCLA, my teacher and adviser encouraged me to compete at FCCLA State Conference. I have never been a great public speaker, and this experience pushed out of my comfort zone. I competed in the event Focus on Children which made me realized my interest in children could help me pursue a career helping children; even though I did not place in the competition, …show more content…
I was the VP of Community Service. In my Sophomore year, I also competed at FCCLA State Conference but in the event of Interior Design. My partner and I placed second in our event and won Gold. As we conquered second in the event, we had the opportunity to then compete at FCCLA National Leadership Conference in the summer of 2016 at San Diego, California. My partner could unfortunately not attend, but another partner and I represented NC at the National Leadership Conference. We won Gold and placed first for the Southeast region. This experience was life-changing and taught me many lessons. Also in my Sophomore year, I was an honorary active member of Key Club and attended Fall Rally. During my Junior year, my membership in other clubs reduced to the most important ones to me. I became the 2016-2017 Vice President for FCCLA. I was also the 2016-2017 Secretary for Key Club. When the President of FCCLA could no longer be part of the club, I stepped up as VP and became the President. For my Senior year, I am the 207-2018 Vice President for Key Club. Outside of school, I am a babysitter for my younger sister and my cousins. I have not been able to work part-time due not having a license or a car. But instead, my job has been to care for my younger sister while my parents are late at work. Throughout my high school years, I tried being as active in school as possibly could. I also tried helping my parents with anything they asked

Although my high school years are mostly defined through academic success, I would have to say my most meaningful achievements came through the North Carolina FFA. This national organization provides me with countless opportunities to showcase my leadership abilities in my school, community, and state. Obtaining the positions of Vice President and President of my high school FFA chapter has had an enormous impact on my life. These positions led to serving on nominating committees, planning community events, attending leadership conventions and conferences, and participating in a state-qualifying parliamentary procedure team. It was these experiences that gave me a passion for public speaking and Agribusiness.…

I have also been involved with my Future Business Leaders of America chapter and am the president of the club. Being so helps me give to the community and school by starting fundraisers for the March of Dimes, running cereal drives for the food pantry, and donating time to other organizations. I lead the meetings and discuss with my chapter what they want to do and what imprint they want to leave on our school as a chapter. FBLA has helped me reach out to my community like all of my other leadership roles I play a part…

Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…

In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Initially, I came into my undergraduate studies at St. Ambrose University looking to become an Occupational Therapist, but that goal changed once I began my undergraduate coursework. Towards the end of a semester of research methods, I became fascinated with statistics and the process of research. In biopsychology classes, I learned how wonderful and sometimes cruel the human mind could be. Occupational Therapy suddenly seemed less interesting and I began to look more seriously at pursuing a different path, more in line with the amazing things I was learning about psychology, research, and the brain.…

Frederick Douglass once said “It is not light that we need, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake.” This means that difficult circumstances are needed to become better versions of ourselves. As someone who overcame the difficulty of balancing academics, athletics, and involvement with clubs and organizations on campus, I personally agree with this statement. Based upon the qualities I developed during these difficult circumstances, Frederick Douglass would believe I’m deserving of a scholarship bearing his name.…
