Why Kids Should Have Less Days of School

“Johnny, are you ready for dinner,”
“No, I have four pages of math homework to do by tomorrow, I’m so stressed out, If only school did not last as long.” Johnny and many other depressed kids in loudoun county need your help! Loudoun County Public Schools have at least 20 extra days of school than other counties around Virginia. This is a waste of our funding and causes extra stress for students and teachers. Therefore Loudoun County needs to take away all of these extra days and that would solve these problems. Here is my evidence why.

Between projects to homework, from teachers to classes, school creates stress. This is my first reason of why Loudoun County Public schools should have less school days. 40% of high schooler parents say that their child is experiencing school related stress. One of the biggest causes of that was homework. Much of this stress is academic related. Therefore If we were to shorten the school year much of this

At least 31 states provided less state funding per student in the 2014 school year. In 2016 12 states proposed even more cuts. At this rate, soon there will be next to no funding left. If were to have a shorter school year, then we will have more budgeting for schools and extracurricular activities that would help lower the stress.

You may say that if there is no school, that your child will have nowhere to go. I have a solution though, DayCare! If your child is 13 and above they can stay home, but if your child is younger they can go to daycare and here is why. You will know what is expected of you. Many times something could come up with your child and you're not prepared, but when your child is at daycare nothing can really come up. The arrangement is stable too. If a teacher is sick then they have others. Also, they have a good mix of activities, whereas if a child was at home they could easily get

Would year-round school or would normal school be more beneficial for students? Some people believe that year-round school is better and are thinking about changing their school schedule to year-round. The education system should change schools to a full year schedule because students get the same amount of time off, students wouldn’t forget information as easily, and students would have a mind of clarity. If schools switched to year-round school, students wouldn’t forget information as easily.…

Have you ever felt the need to take a day off school because of high stress and anxiety levels? Studies have shown that teenagers have recently shown an increase in stress, depression, and anxiety levels. This can lead to poor school performance. Should students have to go to school when they feel mentally unstable or should mental health days be a valid excuse for an absence. I believe that students should be able to use mental health as a valid excuse, just as sick days because it is quite impossible to focus on school and classwork when on the verge of a mental breakdown or on the verge of tears.…

The Benefits Year-Round Schooling Since the beginning of time, teaching and learning has been a detrimental part of what makes us able to innovate and experience the world around us. A form of schooling introduced in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s was a year round school system (Pedersen, "The History of School and Summer Vacation"). This system allowed for more days within the learning period and allotted for students to get more out of their education. Research from all the way back to a hundred years ago has shown that students tend to lose information and their footing during a traditional summer vacation (Fairchild, "Why and how communities should focus on summer learning."). The current system most public schools within the…

The Mill Valley High School Board members should reject the proposed idea of a later school day because it is beneficial to students with after school activities such as sports and jobs. The idea that a later school day is beneficial towards students is preposterous because students with after school activities and jobs would need to be out of school at an earlier hour. Take John Sherwood’s testimony for example. He complains, “But it’s going to make football practice a nightmare. We won’t be able to be dressed and on the field until 4:45, and in October, it starts getting dark by 5:30...…

Students will be required to learn at a much faster pace, and that these issues will negatively affect both students and teachers. However, there are solid reasons that say this won't be the case. There may be less days of school, but with additional time per day, teachers can be more productive each day than they could be with the longer week that has shorter classes. As it can take time to set up, begin, and conclude a class, less time is lost in fewer, longer periods. With the greater time-efficiency, both students and teachers have more time to accomplish what they need to.…
