Suzanne had heart problems that followed afterwards, she realized that life was very short. This can be supported with a small passage from the book, “But what is life if you don't live it?” (Patterson 21). Suzanne had a heart attack due to the stress that her job as a doctor was placing on her shoulders. Subsequently, this is when she came into realization that she needed to straighten her priorities. Many people let themselves go due to certain situations they go through, which causes health problems just like Suzanne’s. This being a conflict of human vs. himself.
