Occupations are often categorized into different classes based on salaries or specialties. Generally, people consider one or the other when deciding their career goals, but how often do they think of it as being a job as opposed to a profession. As a HR professional clearly view what I do as being a part of a profession. Understanding what it is being a professional if closely linked to the meaning of the profession. The meaning of profession varies on one’s own views, but defined as disciplined individuals whom abide by ethical standards (What is a professional, n.d.). In addition, we endure extensive training, education, and skills that derived from a broad area of research.
The Soldiers of the United States Armed Forces exemplify professional qualities. As a professional in the United States Army, we are accountable to the people in society and each other. One of the most effective ways to ensure both areas is sustained through balance. The balancing role of leaders in the profession of arms to me an honor and prestige responsibility. Balance is required to ensure training for future missions are completed to sustain our ability to continuously serve the people. We are mulit-functional leaders who think strategically and work collaboratively while achieving the desired outcomes. Our support extends at a national level where we manage the human resource life functions of the Army via planning, management, and resources. We serve and train at different echelons in support of four core competencies: man the force, provide HR services, coordinate personnel support, and conduct HR planning operations (Headquarter,Department of the Army, 2014).
