Short Biography: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Anna Maria gave birth to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on January 27, 1756. When he was younger, Mozart watched his father, Leopold, teach his sister, Maria Anna, how to play piano. At the age of three, he became a child prodigy. During his childhood, his family traveled around Europe. While on those trips, Maria Anna and Wolfgang performed as prodigies. Mozart became employed as a court musician by Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo in 1773. He had the chance to work in many genres: symphonies, sonatas, string quartets, masses, serenades, and operas. In 1775, he had an enthusiasm for violin concertos, however, a year later, he focused his efforts to piano concertos. Despite his successes, he grew discontented with Salzburg and redoubled his efforts to find a position elsewhere. In 1777, he resigned his position at Salzburg and traveled in search of employment. There were prospects of work in Mannheim, but they did not work and Mozart left for Paris to continue his search, While Mozart was in Paris, his father, Leopold, looked for jobs for his son in Salzburg. Mozart was offered a post as court organist and concertmaster with a yearly salary of 450, but he was reluctant to accept. He traveled around in the hopes of employment outside Salzburg.
