Personal Narrative-High School Varsity Soccer Team

It was the biggest night of our school history. My Proctor High School varsity soccer team and I were on our way to Morrisville, New York, where we would be playing our regionals championship match. Heading into the championship game, we were all focused and let nothing distract us from our mental state of concentration. There was nothing more we wanted than to make the night ours and make history for our beloved school. After triumphing in our sectional championship game against Cicero-North Syracuse (CNS) by a score of three-to-one, we found ourselves seventh seed coming up against New York State’s number one seeded team, Bethlehem. We knew we were up for a tough battle and a wild night. The night was a frigid, bone-chilling one. The noise heard across the stadium from all the fans added on to the rough conditions of the night, but we all remained as calm and concentrated as possible. Time unfroze and all I saw were Bethlehem players surrounding the official and shouting out words of complaint. For what? It appeared to be that the ref called offside and the goal was withdrawn! We could not have been more relieved and overtime did loom. All the players were cramped up for overtime, so both halves of overtime were relatively quiet. Penalties would decide the champions. We were the first team to get penalties started. It was three-two on penalties after four out of the five shots, with our squad having the lead. It not only meant there was one more penalty left to take for both teams, but it also meant we would be crowned champions if we slotted home the penalty. My teammate, Said Begic, was the one to take the decisive penalty and he stepped up and...the power went off in the stadium.
