Personal Narrative: Huskies Vs. The Heat

Improved Essays
Five years in a row, undefeated each season, had the best team in the league. It was just another Sunday afternoon, my team and I were prepared for another championship game. Going into the games we held our heads high, knowing we were the defending champs for five years straight, never losing a game, and absolutely destroying our opponents by large margins of victory. It was the Huskies vs. the Heat, you could say they were our rivals, but we knew that they couldn’t handle the competition we competed at. Every game we played against them, we blew them out, enjoying the sweet taste of victory. We stood there looking at them as they warmed up, trying to see who was having a good day of shooting, Mason and I snickering whilst warming up on how …show more content…
I was talking strategies with my team as we tried to mount back our lead. The complete opposite happened, which really screwed us over. The Heat were winning 45-40, with only two minutes remaining. Our coach called a timeout as he tried to talk gameplan and bring us back to victory. Out went the starters as we tried our hardest in our toughest match we’ve had in years. The shot clock went off and before you knew it we had lost. The Huskies actually lost in the championship, and unable to go undefeated for another season. We were shocked, some of us even in tears. We saw the Heat hold the trophy as we received our 2nd place medals, which meant nothing coming from winning so much. We walked out of that gym with our heads down and in disbelief.

In conclusion, we learned that we should take every game as if it’s a championship game. No matter what our record or who we are winning, we must try our hardest and give our all. Our parents saying the usual, “Good game boys, it was so close. You’ll get them next season.” But we all knew that we wanted revenge and show who really deserved that trophy. But at the end of the day we walked out of that gym knowing that sometimes you can't always have it all the easy

Coach Dale, head coach of the Indian Huskies, on the movie Hoosiers is a strong asset to the team’s success. He is a coach who boost self esteem instead of lowering it. Most coaches only want to win, but Dale wants to see the best of his players which you can see when he says “to be the best that you can be, I don’t care what scoreboard says at the end of game, in my book we’re gonna be winners.” The job of a coach cannot be an easy one, they have to fully give themselves to the team. Coaches are on the road two or three nights of the week, especially basketball coaches.…

Therefore, this was a team of small freshmen and sophomores playing against mostly juniors and seniors at the varsity level in one of the most talented high school conferences in the state. We finished the season 1-15, most of which were pretty tough losses but we worked hard and left it all on the field every game and that in the end is all that matters. The most prevalent memory was after the last game all the players were pretty upset about how it went but our coach ended our last huddle with, “We came into this season knowing it would be challenging and we worked hard from start to finish and I think we ended this season better than we started, which means that next year is gonna be a pretty good…

Why were they so encouraging? Didn't we lose? The reason they were so proud of us was because they knew that we tried our hardest. As long as, as a team, you are trying your best, then you have really never lost. Now lets talk about the other end of the spectrum: success.…

As the game carried on, our team held a commanding lead after the second game leading ten to six by 34 pins. After the second match, Coach Sanders pulled us all together as a team, and he gave us an uplifting speech. Coach Sanders told us we can’t lose focus although we are winning. He also said we have to keep our foot on the gas and whip their tails, and he reminded us of all the Friday weight room workouts we had gone through to reach this point. He told us to give it our all for the seniors that helped to build the program since they were…

The next couple of days I was in the dumps thinking about how, if it weren't for me, our team could have been the tournament champs, and nothing anyone said would convince me that the loss was on my back. A Time to Never be Forgotten I will never forget the hot Florida sun in the summertime or the squeaking of basketball shoes moving across the hardwood court. All this happened when I was in the 3rd grade. As I was eager to get out of Kansas, I started packing my bags the night before, and I usually never pack until my mom is yelling at me at the top of her lungs to get out of the door. This was going to be my second time heading back to Florida, but my first time going there for basketball.…
