Five years ago, I was extremely underweight. I used to eat, but I was unable to gain weight. I remember my cousins and friends calling me “spaghetti.” I was hurt. I knew that I was not sick, but my level of insecurity was so high. As anyone can imagine, getting through middle school is challenging for teenagers in particular for those who have body image issues. During lunch, I used to hide in the locker room so that I do not come in contact with people. Some people will just look at me and laugh. I was ashamed of my body. I would go home and cry. Thankfully, my mother was always there to comfort me. I realized that I was not feeding my body with the proper nutrients. When I got to high school, I was motivated to gain more weight while eating
