Personal Narrative: My Cabin

There’s a little slice of Heaven in Marshall, Texas, where the sun shines through the pines and the sound of cicadas serenade you throughout your afternoon and the lake shines like a plate of polished silver in the early morning sun. When I first came to Camp Fern, I was on my own. Everyone else had known each other for at least two years, so I was the odd one out. In my cabin there was the usual sort. There was the popular one, the attention seeker, the joker, and the one you love to hate. Unfortunately, that feeling was mutual. I was usually the butt of the his jokes, and they were always insulting. Now mind you, I wasn’t that lonely, there were other people after all , but since I was in that cabin most of the time it got to me. Kyle (for

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

The View was magnificent, the green grasses, the fresh air, and the sunshine shining on the landscapes and the trees swaying with wind. It was as if the world was reborn, the ashes were nowhere to be seen, and no fires nor smoke in the air or in sight. We stepped of the door platform and closed the door behind us so they would not ever know that we went outside the main bunker. It has been ten years since we have been outside in the real world, we have no real windows in the bunker they are all electronic. We are all sticking together like Indian's or a wolf pack, so that we can survive and share food together.…

Starting a first assignment can be enjoyable yet nerve wrecking, as when it involves researching yourself on "Google". it doesn't seem to help either Being a beginner to online classes, Its quite Intimidating .Its comforting of being slightly used to the computer, as my past job experience has been mostly at call centers, in front of lucent screen. When I vigoursly research myself I expect to find past photos which I probably never knew existed, maybe a my space account, sadly abandoned as I matured through the years without it. What I did find though surprisingly did not surprise me .…

I took a hike on the High Acres nature path, with my Mom, Sister and golden retriever, Tobey. When I first entered the trail, the path started really wide and began to get narrower. Along both sides of the trail were big tall weeds hanging over and rubbing against you. When we were getting close to the pond you could hear the different types of birds chirping, grasshoppers clicking, and bullfrogs croaking. We approached our first intersection, and decided to go left on to the old, white, wooden bridge.…

A shiver ran across his back as he poured water into his glass. He poured it until it was almost half full and left it there. He started down the dark barely-lit hallway towards his room. The hallway had an eerie feeling like someone was watching him. He quickly turned around but only saw a lonely hallway and the glass of water at the end.…

“You can start whenever you’re ready” The boy looked down at his pale, shaking hands, then up at the ceiling. Anywhere except for the man with the clipboard in front of him. They had told him that if he came here, they would leave him alone. He took that to mean no more blinding lights being shown in his face, no more fake smiles, no more lies. “My mom made me some sandwiches.…

Maybe my parents just wanted to get rid of me for a week, but I created some of my best memories at Camp Edwards. The camp itself is a paradise for kids of almost any age. Across the seemingly endless campground, there are tons of exciting activities that campers can participate in, such as sailing and archery. Camp Edwards sits right beside a huge lake, making the entire camp feel separate from the rest of the world, a utopia of sorts. Across the vast water to the right sat a lonely island that some campers had an opportunity to swim to.…

“Deeper Into my Life” Individuals are unique in their own ways and one of mine happens to be my name, Darrnyejah Bolds. Everywhere I go people have a hard time pronouncing it. Many people have given up and just refer to me as “Ms. Bolds,” but also I have two nicknames “Nye”, and “Nyejah,” which is mostly used by family and friends. Over the years, I have adjusted to my nicknames and became very comfortable with them. I entered this world on February 27, 1997 with the zodiac sign of Pisces.…

Long ago, in a far away land, there lived a man. This man lived alone in a rickety cabin. The floorboards creaked with every step, and the walls were bare and undecorated. The man never bothered to decorate or clean his cabin, so it smelt like old eggs and mildew. This man never paid his bills, and he never bothered to take a shower because there was no water.…

About two weeks into the summer, everyone is still trying to find their place in the “community,” and the adjustment between carefree-camper and responsible elder, in a sense, can be harsh. It wasn’t until the women running the camp, Susan, sat us down and told us, “fake it ‘till you make it,” that everyone started to see the importance of our position. Not only do you uphold the values and traditions of camp, but you are responsible for the happiness and success of everyone around you. Sitting in commons (the permanent name for the living room space) after dinner, watching “Glee” on DVD, eating lollipops, we seem as if we were the most carefree people you had ever met, oblivious to the awakening moments to come. When Susan would come up, if she ever came up, was obviously an omen for bad news…

The Woods are my Escape A week ago I was walking through the Mills River section of Pisgah Forest. I was hot, sweaty and dirty. The over grown grass on the trail made my legs itch and the constant threat of ticks and mosquitoes had me checking my legs every five minutes and swatting the air every five seconds. By the time I left the state park I was tired, hungry, and in need of a shower. And I couldn't wait to get back into the woods.…

I live constantly on edge, an explosive always ready to blow, rarely comfortable in any situation, except the little bridge world of my Den. My wanderlust heart might hate being confined, but swaddled down the little gap between the wall and couch on the livingroom floor isn’t constraining, it’s safe. Barely enough room to curl up, dark under the blanket roof, and messy from weeks spent sleeping and working there, it looks more like a second-grader’s pillow fort than a teenager’s refuge from a stressful reality. I built it a few weeks ago on a whim; hauled the old white couch away from the wall and lined the new crevice with throw pillows and a soft blanket, topped with a cover to keep away prying eyes. I haven’t slept in my own bed since…
