Personal Narrative: My Shadowing Shift In The Internship

Decent Essays
We finally started our shadowing shifts this week. I had switched with a friend in the internship, so I had to wake up early on a Tuesday to start my first shadowing shift. We were not told who we will be shadowing, and so I had a pleasant surprise when I found out my first hour was with Mariko. I had not worked much with her in my first semester working for CELT. She taught me the basics of what a student technologist does at the Teaching Learning Lab. She showed me various things such as email and as well as how to transfer calls to the right person. I had done an office job before, so I was not entirely unfamiliar with handling questions from callers and how to speak with people. In my next two hours, I shadowed both Sharon and Jonathan

My junior year in high school, I became a student mentor in our campus’s peer counseling program. This was an incredibly rewarding experience as I had the opportunity to help freshman students assimilate into our high school dynamic. As a peer mentor, I assisted students with personal problems and mediated issues with teachers in order to maximize their learning experience. I also acted as a role model for my mentees by talking frequently about AP and Honors courses and how to be successful in such programs. I put effort into learning about each individual's interests and goals so that I could expose them to clubs and academic courses that they may appreciate such as the Biomedical Academy or our school’s robotics team.…

Everyone can say that they always imagined or wanted to look up to someone whether if the person was famous or related to them. Throughout my teenage day I’ve always wanted someone to mentor me and show me things in life that I can one day use in the future years to come. I didn’t want a mentor that was a few years older I always wanted someone that was almost twice my age, maybe even older than me. My mentor that I will be talking about name is James. James and I met at my job throughout my time working there I have worked with many managers.…

In 2013-2014, I was the leader of the tutoring and mentoring organizations within my high school. As a tutor, I volunteered at a local elementary school, helping young students with their homework and projects. I also was a mentor to younger students in my high school, aiding them in their transition by giving them study tips and introducing them to the wide range of extracurricular activities. These roles allowed me realize my passion for helping people and cultivate the interpersonal skills I needed for nursing. I have been working with children for over ten years and have had many life changing experiences with them. None of those experiences have impacted my life more then what happened to me a year ago. It all happened when a parent came up to me at the school I work at and asked me to be a buddy at a program called Buddy Break. I asked, what is involved, she told me that it involved me having an open mind, warm heart and a little bit of training. With a little bit of convincing I was on board and ready to embark on a new adventure that changed my life.…

I was smiling the whole time as the skin around my neck was being ripped off. Well I wasn’t actually smiling and as brutal as I made it sound, it wasn’t as horrific an event now that I look back on it. The incident occurred while I was on Spring Break during my freshman year in high school. My family and I were vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee;which if I might add we’ve been there about eight times since I was seven years old. I remember clearly that day down to the exact temperature.…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

My first year of high school was winding down, teachers had covered all learning material, and most students were preparing for finals. June had just begun, and along with studying, I had an upcoming saxophone recital for which I had been preparing since April. The Tuesday before my recital, I had my second to last lesson with my teacher, Fred Scerbo, before the recital on Sunday. I was preparing a piece by Charlie Parker named "Anthropology". Despite its difficulty, I felt that I would be able to perform it well.…

My internship during the fall semester for US 460 consisted of being a teacher’s aide for the sophomore class in the President’s Leadership Program. I was actually lucky enough to be able to work with two amazing leaders this semester in Steven Trujillo, and Shanna Farmer. They both have previously graduated from the program, and have teamed up this semester to lead the sophomore class of US 260 through their learning experience and shadowing process. The leadership program works under the rules and guidelines set by Colorado State University Pueblo, which is a non-profit organization. The structure of the University isn’t a small one.…
