A few transformations and developments about me over summer or maybe even the last time I thought about how much I have changed. One social transformation I went through would be a change of views on how I see the world, second would be my interest and hobbies, doing and liking things that I wouldn’t particularly thought I would even like or do. Lastly one thing that hasn’t really changed would be the love I have for my dearest mother.…

For me I felt taken back by this because growing up this was something I never had to worry about. Another way to see the socioeconomic difference was when it came to certain children having toys or clothing other kids didn’t have. Some of these children would make comments about how they couldn’t afford to have a phone or even a video game like the other kids at the club. Growing up I never felt this way, I always had everything I could have asked for and was constantly being spoiled by my family. The area where I volunteer had groups ranging from third to fifth grade and there were much more boys than girls.…

I believe that my personal background, and my success despite the adversity that I have faced is an essential part of who I am. The first of my struggles came from being born to two teenage parents without at least a high school education, and although my mother went on to get a GED and to college my father did not. Many people in my family had issues with substance abuse and addictions including my father. Although, I was raised by my mother and grandmother, my father’s actions and behaviors negatively impacted my life. My father was verbally and mentally abusive to the people around him, especially when he used alcohol.…

It is the morning of July 4th, 2008: I groan as my mother gently whispers, “teneshi yene mar (Get up honey)”. Struggling I open my eyes and notice the trembling cabin, I turn to my mother with a look of concern and she reaches out her hand and squeezes my own looking up at me, “we are going to be okay Mar”. A couple of moments later our plane has landed, we gather up our belongings and make our way towards the exit filled with people attached to their screens and MP3 players. The airport is filled with an undercurrent of anticipation, impatience, and boredom; bodies scramble back and forth from one gate to another. My mother, attempting to balance three children, clasps my hand, holds my little brother to her waist and calls back to my older…

Most of my life I was raised in poverty, so my political views may differ from others. When migrating from Cuba there was only one thing that my parents could do, and it was work. My whole life I had to grow up in Government Projects for the needy. It wasn’t particularly a bad time for me, but for my parents who wanted a better life for me and my sister it was. While we were completing the activity during class, I noticed myself contemplating past events and all the moments in life that have brought me where I am today. At first, I was scared to step forward or back because I did not want to be judge by my fellow peers and thought it wouldn’t matter if I moved or not. However, after the first couple of questions I decided to answer honestly and noticed how much I have been discriminated in my life due to my economic class and race. Growing up in my household, my family never had enough money to afford luxurious goods such as designer brand clothing and the newest technological items. At times, we didn’t even have enough money to afford crucial necessities such as food and basic school supplies.…
