This every so often causes an individual to shut off their emotions because the pain is too high to be able to handle it (liao, 2006). In long term care facilities there has been a fair amount of abuse but countless go unrecorded. Societies are sadly not aware of elderly abuse within long term care systems because they are rarely broadcasted. If this was a child on the other hand we would be hearing about it all over the news. Society fails to see the similarities between older adults and children. We see the child as vulnerable and innocent but what most do not realise is that older adults can be just as vulnerable as children.
