Personal Crisis Research Paper

To begin, I was asked to write this paper based off of a personal crisis situation and reflect upon the type of crisis it was and how it has in turn affected me. First off in order to better understand what type of crisis it was and to answer any additional questions I should start off by explaining what crisis I endured. It was late one night and myself as well as my boyfriend had a couple friends over for drinks and card games, when suddenly my boyfriend felt something wet under his foot. Thinking he had just spilt his drink he really didn’t think much of it until he looked down the hall and we realized that the wetness had been from water which was flooding from the bathroom. This fits the criteria of the situation I endured because as much as I tried to fix the situation the damage was already too bad for me to be able to do anything about it. The resources I had were merely not enough for this crisis situation.
Next, looking at the types of crisis there are I would have to say that I experienced a situational crisis. A situational crisis fits because a flood is an uncommon and extraordinary even in which I had no way of forecasting nor controlling. Had I known that the possibility of the bathroom flooding would lead to my family being potentially homeless, I would have set better precautions and moved sooner. In this case yes, it was applied and the correlation between the ABC model and how it was applied can be easily explained. To begin, when developing and maintaining a report my boyfriend Max, was extremely helpful. He assisted me by keeping open communication about our situation and was honest with the fact that moving was going to be our only real option. This helped me see how things were going to be. Next, identifying the problem was established with the assistance of my mother and Max. My mother was constantly asking me questions about how things were going and what our next step would be, which helped me to think ahead. As well Max helped because he knows how I handle things when I’m stressed and therefore calmed me down during the process which allowed me to think more clearly until we could find a place for us to agree upon. Furthermore, while coping Max did his best to find the good in the situation which allowed myself to see things from a different point of view. Max pointed out the fact that we already hated the house we were living in and that the flood was the perfect opportunity to get out of our lease without any consequences. Also, he mentioned that we had already dealt with a flood before and managed things fine and that this time things would be no different and if anything it would be easier because we had the previous
