I was left pondering one day after a pastor concluded his sermon with “if you can help one person then your life isn’t in vain”. That remark hit me deeply as in my darkest days I have often questioned the purpose of life and it was in that moment that I received my answer, an answer revolving around altruism. Therefore, I now believe that the path to self-actualization is simply transcending into a form of support for others so that they can better support themselves. Studying racial and social…

Three Learning Moments First learning moments this week was during our very first day of class where we took a field trip down to the river in canoes. We paddled down the river about 2 miles, so we could experience what lies beneath and around the riverbed, immersing ourselves in the environment and strangers at the same time. I Kayak, but I never really take the time to stop and enjoy what the water, and what its surroundings have to offer, I use it as an exercise, not a tool for a forum, but I will in my future endeavors. Incorporating time to learn from my environment and others in the future will be highly considered, because it enhanced the enjoyment of the activity, as well as discussing our observations, learning from one another and building on each…

I have spent most of my time in college as a part-time student and was happy to know that the Social Work program had a very specific track for full-time and part-time students. In order to achieve my goal of completing the program in two years, I followed the full-time track. In the summer, I took 6 credit hours for some prerequisites, in the fall, I took 12 credit hours, and currently, in the Spring, I am also taking 12 credit hours. Lesson planning is a highly important part of teaching. Lesson plans are a teacher’s guide in his or her class room. They outline the learning goals and objectives for a particular lesson or chapter; they may also include the activity the teacher has planned and the supplies they will need to help the students complete that assignment. During my field placement I have yet to see my cooperating teacher plan out her lessons for the week, but it is clear she has a lesson plan. She usually has a lecture planned out for each day and she uses the textbook to outline the students learning objectives.…
