Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments. No company is going to hire a civil engineer who can’t write. This summer I was lucky enough to be offered a co-op position At the City of Hudson Engineering Department. There I have seen the type of writing the engineers deal with. A lot of what the engineers write are letters that have to be well worded and explain the topic of discussion. Also they write job notices to keep residents informed on what is happening in front of their house. Seeing this has really given me insight on how important being able to write truly is in my career. Since I know have a little bit of background about what my major’s writing entails it makes me want to improve because of how important it

I struggle with many aspects of writing but the satisfaction it creates makes up for it. It feels pretty nice when you finish a large piece of writing. You kind of sit back and think, “Wow did I just do that?” I mentioned that I write mostly essay and research papers, which are the worst to write. It is so boring especially when the topic is dull or there are lots of boundaries.…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…

A writing experience that has stood out the most for me was when I was a sophomore in High School. There was a girl in my class who I wasn't so fond of who one day decided to announce to everyone that she had begun to write her own stories. She showed everyone pieces of her writings expecting to get nothing but compliments and be to deemed the class writer, but when she finally showed me her work I cringed at how deplorable it was. The stories had no clear perspective of whether it was written in first person or third person view, some of the simplest of words were spelled wrong, and many words were used in the wrong context. The class didn't seem to care for her stories so they just gave standard responses with no words for…
