One of the most significant goals I secured was the ability to understand and apply the key rhetorical terms, specifically invented and situated ethos, in my Segment 1 Rhetorical Analysis. It was the first essay I ever wrote in college and it was on a topic I never hard of, rhetorical analysis. I when I was writing it, I kept getting frustrated because I didn’t feel like it was my best work. I did a lot of research on it and with the help of the writing center and my Professor, Dr. Osterhaus, I came to the conclusion that a rhetorical analysis was not as foreign as I though it was. The best improvement I made on my paper was based on the feedback I received at the writing center. It was that I needed to have my paper flow better and not “jump around” so much when I am writing. Furthermore, I also think that I really spent a great amount of time researching the rhetorical terms and figuring out how the author of my TED Talk used them to appeal the audience. I will exemplify these skills by giving evidence of my conclusion from my Segment 2 paper. In the conclusion I addressed my original research question of “how do speech and language disorders affect learning and cognitive development in adolescents and adults? To answer this I said that there is no one word answer. I proceeded to address the question by saying, growing up with speech and language disorders has a lot of complex obstacles that people have to move part in order to keep on maturing in their cognitive well being. I added on that it could also lead to other issues in their social and intellectual well being, while battling the daily struggles of being demoted because of their disorder. I ended my essay by giving hope to my readers by saying that there is continuous research being done to try and minimize these complications in humans’ lives, but like everything else in life, it takes time (Fox Segment
