All too often we have seen movies or TV shows about a mutant of some sort, who, because of his looks, assumes that no on will love him, and because of that is angry and hostile. Such story lines are even present in The Beauty and the Beast. Usually, in the end there is a kind lady who saves the monster, proving that she can love, and he can too. However in this story there is only the De Lacey family. The monster watches them though a window where he sees love in the family, but he is rejected by them due to his fiendish looks.…

The green eyed lad just sat there for a moment, every now and again his mouth opening, then shutting again as if trying to spit out the words which were obviously on the tip of his tongue. “Do you want to talk about what happened? I’ve heard that talking through things makes it better, we could try that?”…

A tall, inhuman being created by men who had the foolish ambition to alter what it means to be human all possible through genetic engineering if the science goes that far. If the first part of that sentence seems familiar, it is because it strikes many of the same chords of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein when Frankenstein created the monster in his lab. Technology, no matter if it can be used for good, can become monstrous if the technology goes down morally questionable roads. Genetic engineering can alter the genes of humans to cure them of diseases, create organ donors, and give humans longevity.…

In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley talks about a monster, who transforms from an innocent individual to an evil person at the end. The entire story revolves around the monster and his creator, who abandons the monster at the time of monster’s creation. Furthermore, the society rejects the monster and this rejection changes the harmless being to a harmful creature. Thus, Shelly comments on the idea of human nature being learned and not innate through her tale of the monster. I strongly believe Mary Shelley’s portrayal of the monster in the story depicts human transformation based on their experience in the society.…
