If you or your family suspects that you might have sleep apnea, you will want to speak with your doctor right away. If your doctor confirms your suspicions then they may refer you to a specialist for a sleep study.
Before your sleep apnea appointment, you may want to ask your doctor if there is anything you should do leading up to the date of your appointment. You might be asked to keep a sleep apnea diary to record your sleep patterns including how many hours you have slept, how many times you woke up, how you feel throughout the day and anything else that your doctor may request you keep track of.
It is important to be prepared for your appointment and to remember everything you wish to ask about in regard to sleep apnea or anything else. Write down any questions you might have ahead of time about sleep apnea and any possible complications. You may also want to write down any new or ongoing health problems, any stress that you have been under lately and a list of all medications, including vitamins and supplements that you are taking. Different medications may worsen your sleep apnea and your doctor will be able to find you alternative options if this is the case. If possible, take your bed sharing partner along as another resource. Your doctor may have questions for your partner as well. …show more content…
