When I read the case vignette, there was no thought of a dysfunctional individual. Stated in NASW code of ethics, a social worker doesn’t judge or blame a person for their hardship. We are trained to be their advocate when is needed. An individual or anyone can fall on hard times, become depressed because of the circumstances that are happening in their life. The first thing, I thought about was their children.…
Another key aspect of professionalism I am going to discuss is medical ethics, Beauchamp and Childress’ four principles of biomedical ethics is the commonly used framework when discussing medical ethics. The four principles include, Respect for Autonomy, beneficence, non -maleficence and Justice. ((Beauchamp and Childress, 2001) According to Saint Joseph’s university, autonomy refers to the right of a patient to retain control over his or her body. (Joseph, 2017).…
The article is important to social workers for several reasons, but particularly in regards to raising awareness in diagnosing individuals properly. Social workers are expected to diagnose mental disorders following practice standards. A social worker that fails to properly diagnose a client with a mental disorder resulting in the client being harmed could be liable for malpractice. Social workers can be liable for a malpractice suit, because of misdiagnoses and failure to diagnose clients for proper treatment.…
Application of Ethical Codes to Ethical Dilemmas I worked as a social worker in a long term care facility with a ventilator unit for 16 years. During my time there, there were a few residents who lived on the ventilator unit who decided to terminally wean off the vent or it was decided with the doctor on the unit, the guardian , and an ethic’s committee meeting a resident would terminally wean off the vent due to a poor prognosis, and lack of a acceptable quality of life. These decisions where rarely debated with most of the staff, family, physician, and administration in agreement for the wean to occur. However, when a younger woman with a young child decided she no longer wanted to live attached to a vent for the rest of her life, and stated…
The American Mental Health Counselors Associations (AMHCA) has their own code of ethics. It is to help mental health counselors to assist them on making the right ethical decision, the support of the association as well educate counselors and future counselors, the ethical standards of mental health counselors. Comparing Codes of Ethics The very nature of the counseling profession places professional counselors in close proximity with people, information, and influence. Due to this, ethical dilemmas can arise throughout the course of this work. To help aid in the protection of counselors, and to provide a framework for ethical practice, ethical codes have been developed and instituted within the profession. As Beuchamp and Childress stated (as cited in Calley, 2009), “in the counseling profession, ethical standards are required to protect clients, guide professional behavior, ensure the autonomy of professionals, increase the status of the profession, enhance the client 's and the community 's trust in the profession, and articulate collegial conduct between professionals,” (p. 476).…
Societal values are always changing and evolving. One might follow the basic biblical rule, Matthew 7:12; do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. Although, this theory changes as we evolve as a human race, dependant on religious and or political views at any given time. Cultural diversity is the cultural mixture or ethnic groups within society. The basic societal value is to accept the differences we all possess from one another.…

Introduction The NAADAC was designed to determine what conduct is and isn’t ethical for today’s addictions counseling professionals. This list of conduct standards is determined by the National Certification Commission and is used when complaints are filed against professionals. The state certification boards and educational institutions also use this list to guide current and future addictions counseling professionals in the certification process. While I am not a certified professional I am aware that I am already exercising, in some form or another, these standards and in this paper I am going to attempt to outline the various ways that I have or am currently exercising the NAADAC Code of Ethics.…
