The other being questioning, being able to identify when to ask open ended questions in order to allow the client space and opportunity to disclose who they truly are without pushing categories on them as the interviewer. As well as knowing when to ask close ended questions which will allow me as a counselor to obtain basic demographic information on the client (Kanel, 2015). The area which I would need practice on would be to clarify a close ended question without having the client misinterpreted my intentions behind me as their counselor wanting to clarify their answer. On the contrary speaking about suicide opens up the flows of communications which tend to minimize the fears and can prevent them from following through. Many people also believe attempted or successful suicide attempts happen without any warning signs. This is incorrect, a person who is contemplating committing suicide has given off signs of this either; weather its through a change in behavior, previous attempts, a new found interest in death and vocalizing thoughts of suicide, etc. (The Myths & Facts of Youth Suicide,n.d). Lastly, just to mention a few if a person attempts suicide does not succeed in this attempt they will not attempt to commit suicide again.
