Insomnia is defined as difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking too early. Temporary insomnia is a short term condition, lasting only a few weeks. Stress can commonly induce temporary insomnia. Chronic insomnia is insomnia lasting a month or longer. People with chronic insomnia feel tired all the time. Those who experience chronic pain may also acquire temporary, or chronic insomnia, depending on their condition. Treatment of insomnia varies depending on the type one has. Those who have sleep apnea have pauses that last seconds, and possibly minutes. This disorder, or condition, can be life threatening. People with sleep apnea are usually snorers, however, not every snorer has sleep apnea (Gibbons). Sleep apnea disturbs stages three and four of the sleep cycle. As previously mentioned, these are the deep, most needed stages. Sleep apnea can only be diagnosed by completing a sleep study. During a sleep study, one must have between five to ten pauses per hour in order to receive an accurate diagnosis. When treating sleep apnea, one has a few options. Surgical removal of the adenoids, and tonsils may be recommended if the patient isn 't overweight. If one is overweight, weight loss is strongly recommended. The most common treatment of sleep apnea, is the CPAP machine, or continuous positive airway pressure (Gibbons). This machine helps to keep the airway open, and air flow into the
