Fasting is the process by which one must try their best to restrain from eating, drinking, having sexual intercourse, and doing evil deeds from sunrise to sunset. This pillar states that all Muslims of available age are obligated to fast during the holy month of Ramadan. This holy month occurs in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and lasts about 30 days.
