There are about 1.6 million Muslims in the world making their religion the second largest one. Most Muslims live in the Asia-Pacific region, even though many relate them with the Middle East. Several hundred Muslims actually live in the U.S. They all believe in one God called Allah which makes their religion polytheistic. Allah is the Arabic word for God. They share many common beliefs with Christianity; including Moses, Abraham, and even Jesus Christ. One of their distinctive beliefs from Christianity is that Jesus Christ is a prophet and not the Son of God. They also adhere to the Islamic law rigorously. The Muslim religion has been affected in their customs of the Five Pillars of Islam yet still find ways to keep it alive and rich in their lives after facing hardships given by society.

The first pillar is faith. Faith identifies their belief and trust in their leader, Allah. They are to worship and trust him even in hard times. This leads to the second pillar, prayer. This pillar serves as a way to talk to Allah. They are to perform 5 prayers a day at specific times. The third pillar is alms giving, this is mostly associated with money. Muslims are to give a certain percentage of their income to their community. This also includes volunteering and helping the poor. The fourth pillar is fasting. This involves fasting for a whole month called Ramadan which is required in their faith. This is meant to purify their heart and help improve their relationship with Allah. The last pillar involving the biggest sacrifice is pilgrimage. There is an annul pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims are required to go once in their life time. Many activities are involved in preparing for this trip. This is a very special and valued time in their religious journey through
