They just call it by a different name.¨ - The Giver. In Jonas's community if identical twins are born, you must choose which one to keep and which one to release. When identical twins are born, Jonas's father has to decide which baby to release and which one should stay in the community by seeing who weighs more and whose veins are stronger (Doc D). People in the community don't know what being released really is. They think of it as some place happy and joyful. For the first time Jonas looks at a tape recording of his father releasing one of the identical twins. Jonas saw that his father prepare the needle and the syringe, his father bagan very carefully to direct the needle into the top of the new child's forehead (Doc D). The reason why one of the twins had to be released is because it's veins were too tiny compared to the other twin. In the community whoever is too small and not developing well is assigned to be released because they are not ready to be given a family unit. The Giver wanted Jonas to be silent while watching the tape so he carefully watch what actually happens to newborns that are getting released. He wanted Jonas to watch the whole process of being released and what it actually means (Doc D). While Jonas was watching the tape he noticed that after his father had inserted the needle to the newborn, the newborn did not move (Doc D) He then knew that his father killed it! After all that time of not really knowing what release means, he now knows it means getting killed or murder. Lastly, people in the community don't know what it released means overall, and it's not fair. You can't just say I want to be released and not know what it is, people should know what it is because it's you are basically letting someone die for happiness. Everyone should have the right to live, and it doesn't matter if you were born to little or too weak because life is all about
