All three of the boys are greasers or hoods. The brothers are at risk of being separated because Pony got into some trouble with the law. Many people believe the brothers should stay together, others think Pony and Soda should be put into a boys home. This essay is the side that the brothers should stay together. Even in an near death experience the boys will help each other. “I hadn't realized Johnny was right behind me all the way.” (77)This shows that even while running into a fire the boys will always be there for Pony. This also demonstrates that in a life threatening life his brothers or others will be able to get him out of it. Others on the opposing side may say even with the help of the all of the guys in the gang and his brothers he will always be in danger. “:Greasers can't walk alone too much or they'll get jumped, or someone will come by and scream "Greaser!" at them which doesn't make you feel too hot if you know what I mean.” (2). People may say he can never do anything on his own, but usually Ponyboy isn’t alone he’s either at home with his brothers, or walking around with the gang. The opposing side might also suggest that the others might not always be there for him, but Pony does know how to get out of a tough situation. Pony and the guys will always stick together through thick and thin. “ You take up for your buddies no matter what they do. When you're in a gang, you stick up for the members. If you don't […] it isn't aging any more. It's a snarling, distrustful, bickering pack.”(26). This example shows how easy it is for them to turn against each other but they don’t because they all know sticking together is for the better. This example also shows …show more content…
“Darry and I would probably still have misunderstandings – we were too different not to – but no more fights. We couldn't do anything to hurt Soda.”(149) This shows that to Pony and Darry if it means they can make Soda happier by doing this it will hopefully make them happier too. This also demonstrates that Soda just wants it to be the way it was before were no one fought or yelled, all three of them actually want that as well. "He didn't used to be like that… we used to get along okay… before Mom and Dad died. Now he just can't stand me” (44). This shows how much Darry cares, to Pony it may not seem like he cares at all but all Darry wants is for Pony and Soda to be safe. It also demonstrates that Pony and Darry argue so much because Pony always is doing something that is unsafe or bad that makes Darry upset because he knows if Pony ever got caught or in serious trouble they would be

According to the critic, Eric Tribunella, “The Outsiders is a ‘problem novel’, these, and not merely the fact of physical violence, are the problems it represents, and these collective, systematic problems are bigger than the lives of these particular young adults.” Also, some critics believe that The Outsiders glorifies violence (Sardina 3). Throughout the novel, violence, drugs, alcohol, and class separation are struggles of Ponyboy, but this is really what teenagers face. It may appear to the adults that this is “unrealistic”, but, in reality, this is normal for teenagers. Adults feel or pretend to feel as though their child is not exposed to the horrific wonders of the world; however, adults, new flash this is real.…
