For example citizens had to start worrying about whether they were still going to be alive by the time the war has ended, as over 17 million people lost their lives during the war and 20 million were injured. When Germans developed new technology like the Zeppelins it was very frightening for everyone in cities because flight had only just been invented so it was new to them, and imagine waking up and seeing a giant flying object dropping bombs, that is terrifying. Britain also invented tanks which meant that when they first went to fight with them, they killed more enemies than ever before as the Germans didn’t know of such technology and were not expecting Britain to either. Soldiers also suffered a lot because they had to battle through all conditions of weather and sicknesses like trench foot which was caused by the damp muddy and humid weather and would often lead to amputation. Another way soldiers suffered was Shell Shock because when soldiers went out to fight, they saw all kinds traumatizing thing like people being shot dead right before their eyes. Shell Shock was a mental illness that was not properly understood at the time which affected peoples’ lives and determined if they would be able to live normally or not. However, soldiers were not the only ones affected because women and children suffered just as much as soldiers did and there is no way to compare the two. While men were off fighting for their country, women stayed behind to take over the jobs that the men were previously doing like fire fighting, bus driving and they also made bombs which has changed the freedom of women forever in a positive way as women were finally given the freedom to prove themselves as equals to men and show that they are just as capable as men are. Children also suffered because most of them did not understand what was going on at the time and some were left as orphans to fend for themselves.
