“Winter Dreams” is a short story written by the famous american author, F. Scott Fitzgerald. “Winter Dreams” is about a man’s desire to become wealthy and for the woman he loves to love him back. That man is Dexter Green. Dexter falls for a woman with the name of Judy. In “Winter Dreams” the characters have interesting characteristics that help the reader easily define them. Judy’s role throughout the story demonstrates that she is a character crucial to the story because of her multiple characteristics. Judy Jones is a protagonist as well as Dexter. Judy is mentioned since the beginning as a little bratty kind of girl. Judy has an important role in the story, because her actions basically determine what Dexter will do next. The whole story revolves around these two characters and their actions. Judy is very manipulative when it comes to men, …show more content…
She utilizes men as a way for her to gain her wealth. She can be seen as a static character of the story. Her mind set is always the same and never changes. Judy from the beginning makes it obvious that she is only interested in marrying only for the men’s wealth. Judy even asked Dexter if he was poor. Knowing that he was not poor that’s when she decided to begin a relationship with Dexter. At the end of the story Judy marries another guy because she was not satisfied enough with Dexter's wealth so she married someone with more money. Judy can also be seen as a supporting character because without her, Dexter would have never been heartbroken and he would not have left his fiance. Judy can also be seen as a stereotypical character because just like any greedy and self centered person that person will more than likely end up unhappy. This is exactly what happened to Judy. She always wanted what was best for her and always wanted what she desired but Judy at the end of the story married a man who mistreated her and, Judy who was once a beautiful woman, lost her
