The Animal Welfare Act of 1998

Republict Act Number 8485

To protect and promote the welfare of all terrestrial, aquatic, and marine animals in the Philippines by supervising and regulating the establishment and operations of all facilities. Includes birds.

Section 1

Animal welfare pertains to the physical and psychological well being of animals. It includes, but not limited to, avoidance of abuse, maltreatment, cruelty and exploitation.

Section 1

It shall be the duty of any owner or operator of any land, air or water public utility transporting pet, wildlife all other animals to provide in all cases adequate, clean and sanitary facilities for the safe conveyance and delivery. They shall provide sufficient food and water for such animals while in transit for more than 12 hours or whenever necessary.

Section 4

It shall be unlawful for any person to torture any animal, to neglect to provide adequate care, or maltreat any animal or to subject any dog or horse to fights.
