Description

Platelet aggregation inhibitor, analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent

Class

Cardiac

Indications

Chest pain, suspected AMI, Unstable angina, mild to moderate pain or fever

Mechanism of action

Inhibits cyclooxygenase 2 enzyme (COXX2) leading to reduced synthesis of the platelet aggregation factor thromboxxane A2 (TXXA2) and prostaglandins

Pharmacokinetics

Onset: 2-10 minutes - Peak: 3-6 hours - Duration: upto 24 hours

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to salicylates, active bleeding, suspected severe bleeding tendancy

Adverse effects

Heartburn, gastritis, nausea, vomiting, wheezing and allergic reaction

Pregnancy

Drug-drug interactions

Decreased effects with antacids and steroids , Increased effects with anticoagulants, insulin, oral hypoglycemics, fibrinolytic agents
