Met Requirements for Commencing an Air Operation under IFR
Must not commence unless -
- At the ETA of destination, conditions are at or above the minima published in the NZAIP for the procedure to be used; or - At the ETA of use at - one alternate, meet ceiling and vis requirements of (Ceiling 1000ft above minimum, Visibility >5km or 2km above minimum), or - 2 alternate aerodromes, meet ceiling and visibility requirements (PA: 600ft or 200ft above DH, Vis 3000m or 1000m above minimum/NPA: 800ft or 200ft above MDH, Vis 4000m or 1500m above minimum) PIC not commence unless at least one alternate is available that meets the ceiling and vis requirements for alternate nomination, if - - departure or destination aerodrome is outside NZ; and - Destination aerodrome has less than two separate runways suitable for use by the aeroplane being used. |
IFR Departure Limitations
Do not commence when conditions are above takeoff minima but below IFR landing minima unless there is an appropriate aerodrome - within one hour flying time at OEI cruise speed of ADEP (twin engine), or, maximum of 2 hours flying time OEI cruise speed of ADEP (three or more engines)
Requirements for an Alternate
IF aerodrome of intended landing does not have a standard instrument approach; or
If forecast 1 hour either side of ETA indicate ceiling will be less than 1000ft above minima for the approach to be used; and visibility is less than 5km, or 2km above the minima published, whichever is higher. |
Alternate Requirements
PA: Ceiling 600ft or +200ft above DH. Vis 3000m or 1000m above minima.
NPA: Ceiling 800ft or +200ft above MDH, vis 4000m or 1500m above minima. |
Part 121 Met Requirements for commencing an Air Operation to an overseas destination
At least one alternate is available that meets ceiling and vis requirements for alternate minima if -
- Departure or destination aerodrome for the operation is outside NZ; and - Destination aerodrome has less than two separate runways suitable for use by the aeroplane being used. |
Reduced Takeoff Minima (Part 121)
PIC and SIC qualified for reduced minima takeoff
RWY has centreline lighting/marking 2-engine, prop driven - autofeather Runway visibility established using RVR Method for confirming that the required visibility exists is acceptable to the director. |
Met Operating Restrictions VFR Air Operation Part 121
VFR OCTA Day: Ceiling >1000ft, Vis >5km
VFR at Night: Not Permitted |
Met Operating Restrictions VFR Air operation Part 125
VFR OCTA Day: Ceiling >1000ft, Vis >5km
Night: Ceiling >3000ft, Vis >16km |
Met Operating Restrictions on Multi-Engine Aeroplanes performing a VFR Operation - Part 121
Part 91 VFR minima
Cannot perform VFR extended over-water operations. Must remain below the ceiling, remaining clear of cloud and in continous sight of the ground or water. Cannot fly above more than scattered cloud, unless aircraft is IFR ready |
