What colour is the ADF in the FMC? |
Cyan |
What colour is navigation radio data? |
Green |
What colour are active; Waypoint Airspeed Altitude |
Magenta |
When will the ADIRU ON BAT light illuminate? |
When the ADIRU is selected ON and ground power or primary power is removed, the ADIRU is running directly from the battery |
If the ADIRU becomes inoperative in flight what data does the FMC use to navigate? |
GPS |
How do you know that that GPS is being used for position updates? |
GPS is displayed on the ND |
What are the 3 components of the ADIRS? |
ADIRU Air data inertial reference unit SAARU Secondary attitude and air data reference unit Air Data Modules |
Can the ADIRU be switched off in flight? |
No, inhibited |
How long does the ADIRU take to align? |
5-15 minutes, depending on latitude |
Can the ADIRU be aligned in flight? |
No |
If the ADIRU fails, what will the SAARU provide? |
Attitude Heading which must be manually set to standby compass periodically Air Data |
After 3 minutes of the SAARU providing a backup heading what happens? |
A prompt asking pilot to set heading in FMC |
What do you lose after ADIRU fails? |
Most pitch and roll modes on the autopilot
On the PFD flap manoeuvre speeds and PFD heading are lost unless this is input into the CDU The ND display will now reference to track in place of heading Autobrakes |
Where does the ADIRU and SAARU receive their air data and when is air data valid? |
Left, center and right pitot static systems Air data is valid when 2 or more sources agree in the ADIRU, SAARU or both |
What is single channel operation? |
Occurs when ADIRU and SAARU data is invalid.
The left PFD displays data from the left pitot static system and the right PFD displays data from the right pitot static system.
An EICAS message will generate when this occurs |
What is the flow for the air data to ADIRU and SAARU? |
L, C R pitot static system to the ADM's (Air data module), travel on bus as three seperate pieces of data to the ADIRU and SAARU.
Data will then leave the ADIRU as Altitude Airspeed Attitude Heading Position To the PFD, ND, CDU, EICAS, AFDS |
How are ADF's tuned? |
Manually in the CDU |
If you manually tune DME's will that inhibit FMC DME tuning for position updates? |
No, the FMC uses 2 dedicated channels to automatically tune DME's |
When will the ILS autotune when the runway with an ILS, LOC, back course, LDA has been set in the FMC? |
Airplane is within 50 miles of TOD OR 150 miles of the landing runway threshold OR FMC is in descent mode |
How many ILS receivers are there? |
3 |
When is ILS autotuning inhibited? |
10 minutes after takeoff. Selection of a new approach in the inhibited period will cause ILS autotuning to occur |
How do you know when a nav aid has been identified? |
Morse code is translated into alpha characters and displayed on PFD and ND |
How are the FMC's divided up? |
One accomplishes flight management tasks while other is monitoring |
How is FMC position updated in flight? |
ADIRU inertial position updated by GPS to compensate for inertial reference errors |
Can you stop the FMC from using a NAVAID for position updating? |
Yes, use of NAVAID inhibited |
When armed for takeoff when does LNAV engage? |
50' within 2.5 miles of active route leg |
If a temporary level off is required and now a climb via SID is issued how would you do this on the MCP? |
Set top altitude and select altitude selector to continue climb in VNAV SPD |
What are valid CG range for perf? |
14-44 |
How is a descent recommenced after a altitude intervention? |
Lower Altitude is set in MCP window and pushing altitude selector |
If both FMC's fail is autotuning available? |
No, access to NAVRAD page to set navigation radios |
How is the PLAN mode page on the ND orientatied? |
True north up |
What is the format for adding a manual waypoint? |
Place-bearing/distance OR Place-bearing/distance/Place-bearing/distance OR Latitude/Longitude |
In what order does the FMC determine its position in flight? |
GPS NAV radios ADIRU |
When must ADIRU alignment not be attempted? |
Latitudes greater than 78 degrees 14.75 minutes |
What does SAARU stand for? |
Secondary Attitude and Air data Reference Unit |
If both FMC's fail what do you lose? |
LNAV and VNAV Autothrottle may be unavailable CDU will provide route data to ND and other CDU will provide info to A/P for LNAV to be reselected |
