How many PFC's?

3

How many ACE's ?

4

What is the flow of information from pilot input to control surface movement?

ACE's interpret then digitise and send to PFC'S which assess the input with regard to flaps, ADIRU info, air data, etc then send the data back to the ACE'S which command movement through the Power Control Units (PCU's)

How many autopilots?

3 - L, C, R

Is autopilot available in secondary mode?

No. Neither is auto speedbrake

Is envelope protection available in secondary mode?

No. But pilot still has full manual control

What is direct mode?

Further degradation of PFC data. ACE's disconnect entirely from PFC's and operate directly from pilot inputs

What types of flaps / slats does the B777 have?

2 outboard trailing edge flaps

2 inboard trailing edge flaps

2 krueger flaps

7 leading edge slats

Can the aeroplane be trimmed at a speed below MMS?

No. Continuous back pressure required. Same with Vmo/Mmo

Is yaw damping available in the secondary and direct mode?

Secondary - yes if air data is avbl

Direct mode - No

At what speed is TAC armed?

70knots

Are ailerons available in high speed flight.

No.

Which spoilers are locked out during high speed flight?

5&10

Which spoilers have mechanical connections to the flight controls?

4&11

What does the EICAS 'FLAP DRIVE' mean?

Flap drive mechanism is failed. Do not use alternate flaps. Protections N/A

What does the EICAS "FLAP/SLAT CONTROL" mean?

Flap/slat electronics unit has failed. Use alternate flaps for retraction.

What is the difference between the -300 and -300ER flap placard speeds?

-300 placarded speeds are lower (between 10-25kts diff)

What is the difference between the -300 and -300ER flap placard speeds?

-300 placarded speeds are lower (between 10-25kts diff)

When is slat load relief active?

If airspeed is above 246kts (-300) or 256kts (ER)

What is the difference between the -300 and -300ER flap placard speeds?

-300 placarded speeds are lower (between 10-25kts diff)

When is slat load relief active?

If airspeed is above 246kts (-300) or 256kts (ER)

What moves out from the wing when flaps 1 is selected?

Slats to midrange position

What is the difference between the -300 and -300ER flap placard speeds?

-300 placarded speeds are lower (notably F20 placard speed is 25kts less on the -300)

When is slat load relief active?

If airspeed is above 246kts (-300) or 256kts (ER)

What moves out from the wing when flaps 1 is selected?

Slats to midrange position

(Full down position if operating in secondary mode)

When do slats move to full down position?

When flaps 30 is selected

Which flap setting moves trailing edge flaps only?

5,15,20 (takeoff settings)

When does flap load relief occur in the primary mode?

Flaps 15 to 30

When do slats automatically move to the down position?

Only in primary mode when selected to midrange (Flaps 1) and the aeroplane approaches a stall

How do slats operate in secondary flap mode?

If selected to midrange before secondary mode is active, they remain at midrange until F20. If flaps/slats primary fails prior to midrange slats, they will extend out to the down position with Flaps 1.

Is slat load relief available in secondary mode?

Yes if airspeed becomes excessive with slats down.

What does the EICAS FLAP/SLAT CONTROL indicate?

Alternate flaps/slats mode.

Set flaps manually. Max flap 20 and slats to midrange

What does using the alternate pitch trim levers on the control stand do?

Adjusts the trim reference speed in the normal mode and moves the stabiliser mechanically (in all modes).

They take priority over wheel pitch trim.

Not to be used with autopilot engaged or during stall/over speed

Is automatic pitch compensation available in secondary or direct modes?

(For gear, flaps, thrust or 30 degree turns)

No

Is automatic pitch compensation available in secondary or direct modes?

(For gear, flaps, thrust or 30 degree turns)

No

What levels of variable elevator feel are available in secondary and direct modes?

2 - flaps up and flaps down

What does the rudder ratio changer do?

Reduces rudder deflection (for a given input) as airspeed increases

When is wheel-to-rudder cross tie operative. And when does it take effect?

Operative below 210kts in the normal mode

Takes effect with an engine failure Control wheel inputs can deflect the rudder up to 8 degrees
