Valvular Dysfunction

Describe CAD?

Plaque buildup in heart arteries that cause blockage

Describe MI

Decreased blood flow to areas of the heart causing death and damage to heart tissue

Describe CHF

Poor pumping power by heart causing fluid to pool in areas and congest

Describe Arrhythmia

Electrical impulses of heart misfire

What are 6 causes of Heart Disease that CAN BE altered?

Temporary ischemia to cardiac muscle which is Reversible without permanent damage to heart

What is Levine Sign?

A clenched fist over the sternum due to Angina

What are 3 signs of Angina?

Substernal pain that radiates to upper body

Burning or tightness in chest

Dyspnea or SOB

Describe Stable Angina

Predictable at certain exertion during activity, or from heavy meals

Can be treated with rest, nitroglycerin, or coronary artery vasodilators

Describe Unstable Angina

Unpredictable and comes from minimal exertion, and is a medical emergency as it could lead to MI

When does MI occur?

After 20+ minutes of Ischemia to the heart and causes Irreversible damage to heart tissues

How is the severity of Arrhythmia or Ectopic beats assessed?

By CO, as ventricular arrhythmias will decrease CO and have more detrimental effects than do atrial arrhythmias

What is Ectopic Beat?

Heart beat that originates elsewhere than the Sinus Node

Describe PVC?

Premature Ventricular Contractions, won't affect CO if less than 7 minutes. If occurs during activity STOP and assess

When should PT interventions be avoided during AFib

RHR higher than 115 bpm

Describe PAT

Paroxysmal Atrial Tachycardia- Usually lasts for only minutes and pt can continue activity after it resides

Describe Sustained V-Tach

HR of at least 100bpm for 30 seconds, and is a medical emergency

What is the MET range for Phase 1 of Cardiac Rehab?

No more than 3.5 METs

Describe MET

Amount of O2 used by the body at rest, or amount of work of the body at rest

Describe Location, BORG, and MET of Phase 1 of Cardiac Rehab

In hospital

9-11 BORG

Under 3.5 MET

Describe Location, BORG, and MET of Phase 2 Cardiac Rehab

In Cardiac Rehab Facility

12-16 BORG

No greater than 5.5-6 MET

What is per session and overall duration of Phase 2
