What are the 4 major layers that make up the wall of the GI tract? |
-Mucosa the innermost layer, produces mucus that protect the lining and also produce digestive enzymes. -Submucosa 2nd layer of loose connective tissues that contains blood vessels lymphatic vessels and nerves. - muscularis- 3rd layer made of 2 layers of smooth muscle that move food along the GI tract - Serosa outer lining that is part if the peritoneum |

Protease- Proteins to amino acids
Lipase- fats to fatty acids Salivary amylase- starch to maltose |

What is the role of the pancreas in the digestive system? |
It secrets pancreatic juices and two hormone insulin amd glucogon. - the juice is secreted into ducts which merge to form the pancreatic ducts, and together with the bile duct empty into the dudenom |

How do we swallow food? |
Voluntary phase- food is swallowed from mouth to pharynx. Involuntary phase- once food in in pharynx becomes a reflex. Food moves down through the esophagus through persistalsis |
What are 3 functions of the stomach |
Store food Start digestion Control movement of chyme into small intestine |
What is the role of the gall bladder |
Has stored bile from the liver, secretes it into small intestine to emulsify fats. |
