Oil Level

Check when engine off. Indicate location of dipstick. Check that oil level is within safe operating range. Must be above refill mark.

Leaks/Hoses

Look for puddles on the ground. Inspect hoses for condition (frays, cracks, tears). Dripping fluids on underside of engine and transmission.

Coolant Level

Adequate level shown on sight glass on radiator or coolant reservoir. If no sight glass you must describe what you'd look for after removing radiator cap.

Power Steering

Checks the dipstick, sees where fluid is relative to the refill mark. Or checks sight glass. Level must be above refill mark.

Check belts for:

Smugness, no more that 1/2" to 3/4" play at center of belt. Cracks, frays, loose fibers or signs if wear.

Four engine components to check for and what to check for.

Alternator, Power steering pump, water pump, air compressor pump. Check if component isnt damaged, leaking and mounted securely. Check conditions of hoses coming to and from component, and check condition of belts. If not belt driven point this out to the examiner.
