Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin, persuaded Tsar Nicholas II to abdicate and hand over power. In 1918, the Tsar and his family were assassinated. |

After Lenin died, Stalin took over as leader. Under his leadership, ordinary Russians were treated cruelly and Stalin became a ruthless tyrant. Animal Farm is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. George Orwell wrote it as a reflection on the corruption of power. Originally, it was subtitled ‘A Fairy Tale’. |
