Equivocate
To manipulate language in order to avoid committing or to deceive.
Generalization
An error in reasoning that a claim applies to all instances instead of to some. Example: Only motivated athletes become champions.
Non sequitur
Latin for "it does not follow" this describes an inference that does not logically follow from the premise. Example: Vice-President Richard Nixon said it should be obvious that he is honest because his wife wears a simple republic cloth coat.
