What happens when force is applied on a body ? |
1. It can change the state of rest or state of motion of the body, that is ;it can produce motion in the body. 2. It can change the size of shape of the body ,that is; it can change the dimensions of the body. |
Examples of force producing motion in a body ? |
1. The pressure exerted by a broom moves the trash. 2. A ball lying on the ground moves when it is kicked. 3. The pull exerted by a horse moves a cart. 4. The pull exerted by steam engine movies the train. 5. The force due to gravity makes an apple fall. 6. A fielder on the ground stops a moving ball by applying force with his hands. |
Examples of force chainging the dimensions of the body ? |
1. By loading a string hanging from a rigid support, the length of the string increases. 2. By hammering a small piece of silver sheet ,a big thin foil is made. 3. The steam pushing out from a pressure cooker, occupies a large volume in the atmosphere. 4. On pressing a piece of rubber, its shape changes. |
What happens when force is applied on the rigid body ? |
A Force when applied on rigid body, does not change the interspacing between its constituent particles; and therefore it does not change the dimensions of the object ; but causes only the motion in it. |
What happens when force is applied on a non rigid body ? |
A force when applied on a non rigid body, changes the interspacing between it's constituent particles ;and therefore causes a change in its dimensions ;and can also produce motion in it. |
Force ? |
A force is that physical cause ,which changes or tends to change, either the size or the shape ;or the state of rest or of motion of the body. |
What are the two kind of Forces ? |
The two kinds of forces are:- 1. Contact forces 2. Non contact forces |
What are contact forces ? |
The forces ,which are applied on the bodies ,by making a physical contact are called the contact forces. |
What are the kinds of contact forces ? |
1. Frictional force. 2. Normal reaction force. 3. Tension force as applied through strings. 4. Force exerted by a spring. 5. Force exerted during collisions. |
Frictional force |
When a body slides over a rough surface ,a force starts acting on the body, in the direction ,opposite to the motion of the body; along the surface, in contact .This is called the frictional force or the force of friction. |
Normal reaction force |
When a body is placed on a surface, the body exerts a force downwards; is equal to its weight; on the surface ;but the body does not move or fall because; the surface exerts an equal and opposite force on the body ,normal to the surface, is called the normal reaction force. |
