What is pulmonary ventilation? |
Commonly called "breathing;" the process of moving air into and out of the lungs. |

What three processes are required for respiration to occur? |
Ventilation, External pulmonary respiration, Internal cellular respiration. |

What is external respiration? |
Occurs in the lungs where O2 diffuses into the blood and CO2 diffuses into the alveolar air. |

What is internal respiration? |
Occurs in the tissues where O2 diffuses out of the blood and CO2 diffuses out of the cells. (Same as internal respiration). |

What is cellular respiration? |
Metabolic process by which an organism obtains energy through the reaction of O2 with glucose to produce H2O, CO2, and ATP. (Same as internal respiration). |
