How does the government how support old age? |
A state pension was developed. 5s for a single person 7s 6d for a couple. |

What did the National insurance act do? |
Enforces health insurance to all of those earning under £160 a year.
The worker would pay 4d, the employer 3d and the state 2d.
Covered claims up to 9s. Provided free treatment and maternal care up to 30s. |

What did the government do to tackle unemployment? |
Insured workers were given 7s a week for up to 15 weeks a year if they were unemployed.
It was not designed for most trades. It focused on seasonal workers.
This part broke after WWI due to mass unemployment. |

Why were these reforms set up? |
The government couldn't recruit 75% of men in the country to fight in the second Boer war, as they were all unfit due to substandard conditions. |
