Because, we're all born with original sin. This is because Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating fruit from the forbidden 'knowledge tree'. As the human race was seminally present in Adam's loins, we share in that sinful act and must repair the relationship between God and humanity.

If a pregnant woman had caner and needed treatment that would kill the baby it would still be seen as a ood act. This is because the intent to cure her is good and the act of curing her is good, even though ending the pregnancy is bad as that was not the aim.
