What is the required condition for serviceability for passenger trains? |
Brake Piston Travels Equipped with Spring Park Brakes - JSLA and HSL - Min - 70mm Max 85mm Brake Blocks The minimum thickness to be observed is 10mm. Slack Adjusters If the brake piston travel on a vehicle is in excess of 150 mm, the airbrake must not be isolated but when calculating the operative airbrakes on the train, that vehicle must be considered as a non-brake vehicle. Handbrakes If a defect prevents the handbrake from being applied, A Danger No Handbrake card will also be attached to the operating levers or wheels of each handbrake e.g. passenger vehicles may be equipped with an internal as well as external handbrake. Trunnions bolts There are 4 per bogie. Side Bearer Clearance 1mm - 5mm |

What is the required condition for freight bogies in passenger service? |
When it is necessary to replace a missing or worn brake lock on a passenger vehicle equipped with bogey mounted brake cylinders and slack adjuster, the following instructions must be complied with: - inspect brake head and wheel if serviceable - let out the slack adjuster to give sufficient slack in the brake rigging to enable the new block to be fitted - Fit the new block if retaining key available - take up the slack in the brake rigging by resetting the slack adjuster until the correct brake piston travel is obtained |

What is the procedure to deal with identifiable defects on passenger vehicles? |
Faults must be reported to the officer in charge or the train controller so that a direction and procedure can be given. Once directed the driver must suitably card the vehicle for repair. Any damage to the exterior of the carriage that does not compromise the safety of the train or the customers, must be reported to the conductor to complete a carriage fault report. The driver may also report the fault to the train controller. |
